Wiltshire & Swindon CEP news

With opportunities for young musicians, theatre and filmmakers, CPD for music teachers, a young creatives showcase and a family-friendly arts festival, there's lots of great stuff we're bringing to you in this summer newsletter. Looking ahead, the W&SCEP will be running further networking events and CPD in the autumn, connecting education & cultural partners across the county. Youth Choir & Youth Orchestra opportunities!

Join the Wiltshire Youth Choir for a summer of courses and incredible concerts, exploring a wide range of songs. Open to 12-18yr olds. The next rehearsal is on Tues 31st May at St Martins Church, Salisbury.

And, the West of England Youth Orchestra has a summer course running 22nd-28th August at Wiltshire Music Centre, open to young musicians from Wiltshire and the surrounding area, offering opportunities to perform with like-minded young musicians and leading professionals.


FREE Conductive Music Taster Session for Teachers

Wednesday 8th June 2022, 4pm, Zoom

Wiltshire Music Connect has arranged for the brilliant Conductive Music to bring STEAM workshops to Wiltshire schools again in 2023. Using a multi-disciplinary approach, Conductive Music teaches pupils how to design, code, compose and perform with custom-made, digital musical instruments.
 
If you would like to find out more about Conductive Music workshops, then why not attend this free 45 minute Zoom ‘taster’ session for teachers on Wed 8th June at 4pm.  The Conductive Music Team will explain their approach and demonstrate their learning platform. 
 
After the taster session, Wiltshire schools that would like to have the subsidised workshops next year (in March 2023) can make an expression of interest.

SHIFT at Salisbury International Arts Festival

Friday 10th - Sunday 12th June, around Salisbury

SHIFT was established by Wiltshire Creative to amplify young voices through the arts. Now in its second year, SHIFT continues to strive to give young people a platform to be seen and heard. Their new Associate Artists, both under 25, are building on the success of SHIFT; bringing young voices to wider audiences through a unique programme of events for Salisbury International Arts Festival!

There'll be SHIFT: Live, with young emerging musicians; Kitchen Island Conversations, with workshops and panel talks around the climate crisis; and SHIFT: On Stage, an evening of youth theatre! See full details here.


Green Sky Festival 2022

Monday 13th - Sunday 19th June 2022

Corsham's Eco Aware Festival of Arts & Culture run by Pound Arts, the Blue Sky Festival has this year been renamed to the Green Sky Festival as all activities are embracing and celebrating all things environmental. Lots of amazing content for schools, young people and families to get involved in!


Making My Mark - young filmmaker opportunity

Create Studios is inviting young filmmakers aged 16-25 to submit a short 90 second film telling their own story of personal identity and heritage through Making My Mark. There will then be 30 young people selected to attend the screening of their 90 second film at the BFI in London, ahead of a national tour across two English Heritage properties, and their online archive, plus coverage by three national media partners over the following year!

Dawn Burgess Bursary - applications now open!

Dancing Ledge Productions and Wiltshire Creative have partnered to launch a bursary in honour and memory of Dawn Sturgess. The Dawn Sturgess Bursary will provide one budding Drama School acting student with up to £30,000 towards their living costs while studying! To be eligible, you must be a permanent resident of Wiltshire at the time you submit your application, be between 18-25 years old, and have an accepted offer in Spring 2022 for a full-time acting course at a UK Drama School. Artsmark20 - Day to Create!

Wednesday 6th July 2022

To celebrate 20 years of Artsmark, the national Day to Create will bringing together children and young people from schools and education settings across the country! This is an Artsmark community day for children and young people’s ideas, imagination and creativity to flourish through whole-school arts activity.   

To help you build your day, Artsmark have worked with the creative minds at Little Inventors and Grimm and Co to design some wonderfully inventive and imaginative activities to try with the young people you work with, supporting children to express themselves, get their voices heard and discover their creative potential. Share photos from your day by including #DaytoCreate


Culture Welcomes Refugees

Instigated by Pound Arts, and being taken up by many other arts & cultural organisations in Wiltshire and beyond, this wonderful scheme is providing free tickets to almost anything for any refugees! Contact Pound Arts for details.
